Hinduja Group and Obrascon Huarte Lain Desarrollos have secured consent to redevelop the Old War Office in Whitehall into a luxury 125-bedroom hotel and residential scheme.
Under the plans, the existing building will be altered to create the hotel, spa and ballroom, as well as up to 88 residential units.
A new entrance, an additional three storeys on floors five to seven and three additional basement levels will be added.
The property will also house retail and restaurant units on parts of the lower ground, ground and second floors, and a bar on the fifth and sixth floor.
The Old War Office is a Grade II listed building within the Whitehall Conservation Area.
Originally built as offices in 1899-1906, the building is now vacant following the government’s decision to dispose of it in 2014. The new owners acquired the site in March 2016.
