Plans in for York Cocoa factory

Developer Newby has submitted planning to redevelop the former Nestlé factory on Haxby Road in York into 263 apartments.

The building has lain empty since 2008 as the confectionary giant tried to find a developer. The new plans for the Cocoa Works aim to retain the building’s industrial heritage and existing façade.

Nick Moody, founding partner at Newby, said: “We love the building and all that it stands for and, after detailed consultation with the local public and other key stakeholder groups that gave 98% positive feedback, we feel that our proposals make the most of its potential.”

Subject to planning, Newby intends to start on site in November with a phased delivery programme over 30 months. The first phase of apartments will be released for sale in summer 2018.

Axis Architecture designed the scheme and O’Neill Associates is planning consultant.
