Brentwood Council has released a new strategic design plan to guide development of the Essex town centre.
The plan, developed by Levitt Bernstein with support from GVA and Project Centre, identifies routes and opportunity sites that could contribute to the regeneration.
The plan will be adopted by the council and used to inform the new local plan for the borough, and development partners will also be sought for the various opportunity sites in order to make this a reality.
It intends to improve access to and the “permeability” of the borough. It said the council-owned William Hunter Way car park and the area around the Baytree Centre and Chapel Ruins are central to this strategy.
Brentwood Council leader Louise McKinlay said: “It is ambitious and marks the start of an overarching scheme that puts design and quality principles at the heart of the borough, ensuring any development is appropriate for the setting and people of Brentwood.”
