IKEA has submitted detailed plans to Greenwich Council for what will be the retail giant’s leading sustainable store in the UK. The site lies on Bugsby’s Way, SE10, in between Greenwich Peninsula and Charlton Riverside.
The new store will include IKEA’s full product range and extend to 340,000 sq ft in size. The store is anticipated to open during summer 2018 and provide 500 jobs.
Sustainability measures include innovative uses of timber, roof and landscaped gardens, and a design that exceeds a BREEAM “excellent” rating. Sustainable transport measures include 90 cycle spaces and 20 electric car-charging points.
IKEA’s redevelopment plans were originally granted outline consent in March 2014. The Swedish retailer received ownership of the site in 2015 and started demolition works last year.
The plans were designed by SRA Architects.
