Argos boosts Sainsbury’s sales

Like-for-like sales at Sainsbury’s and its subsidiary Argos grew by 0.3% in the nine weeks to the 11 March 2017.

However, in its fourth quarter trading statement it said that like-for-like sales at the supermarket were down by 0.5%, while at Argos sales were up by 4.3%.

Mike Coupe, Sainsbury’s group chief executive, said: “We are pleased with this performance and are making good progress against our key priorities.

“The market remains very competitive and the impact of cost price pressures remains uncertain. However, we are well placed to navigate the external environment and remain focused on delivering our strategy.”
