Cancer Research UK and British Council sign up to Stratford

Lendlease and London & Continental Railways have secured two major lettings at a new 274,000 sq ft office building at the International Quarter in Stratford, E15.

Cancer Research UK has agreed terms to take around 100,000 sq ft, and the British Council has placed circa 50,000 sq ft under offer at S9. It comes after online travel company Expedia agreed to take on Cancer Research’s 115,000 sq ft lease at Derwent’s Angel Building in Clerkenwell, EC1, on a surrender and re-grant basis.

S9, located to the south of the 22 acre site, comprises nine floors of offices with a ground floor 4,100 sq ft retail/restaurant unit.

The International Quarter is being delivered by Lendlease and LCR in a 50:50 joint venture on behalf of Stratford City Business District. The regeneration project totals 4 million sq ft of offices, 333 residential units and 52,000 sq ft of shops, cafes and restaurants. It is located next to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London.

The first two commercial buildings have been prelet to the Financial Conduct Authority and Transport for London.  The FCA-let building has been sold to Deutsche Bank for £370m and TfL’s new headquarters has been sold to Legal & General Retirement for £246m.

Gryphon Property Partners is advising Cancer Research UK. CBRE is representing the British Council. JLL and BNP Paribas Real Estate are joint letting agents at The International Quarter.
