Property’s rugby enthusiasts converged at McCracken Park in Gosforth for the North East v Yorkshire Property Rugby Festival, raising £3,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice.
The hospice provides specialist care to people with life-limiting conditions. More than 350 property professionals attended the event, which saw the North East team win 24–21. Sponsors included Quorum Business Park, GVA, Knight Frank and Ryder Architecture.
Property puts Andy streets ahead in Brum
Ahead of the West Midlands mayoral elections next month, Birmingham’s property professionals held a vote of their own on who they thought should win. The poll, held at EG’s Birmingham Question Time, gave Conservative candidate Andy Street a decisive victory, although whether the electorate will agree on 4 May remains to be seen.
The mayoral election and infrastructure proved to be the hot topics at the debate, which was attended by more than 180 people and held at IM Properties’ newly completed 55 Colmore Row offices.
Panellists included John Griffiths, Savills; Laura Shoaf, Transport for West Midlands; Ross Blair, Hines UK; Richard Pettifor, Gateley; and Huw Rhys Lewis, UK Central Solihull – Urban Growth Company; and the debate was chaired by EG’s Damian Wild.
Construction instruction
Housebuilder Keepmoat, the Construction Industry Training Board and Generation Training have hosted a pilot “Give construction a try” event to highlight the career options available to students.
Young people from Leeds and Wakefield took part in activities which ranged from scaffolding, joinery, electrical and plumbing to architectural design and quantity surveying.
The event could now be pushed out across the UK.

BAM Construct UK has teamed up with CLIC Sargent as its new charity partner. The construction and engineering firm has pledged to raise £100,000 over the next two years to help the charity support children and young people affected by cancer.
Simple Energy putts into final
Industry golfers raised £550 for Beatson Cancer Charity at the heats stage of Scotland’s National Business Golf Tournament. Supported by Scottish Construction Now, the Scottish Property Federation and Scottish Housing News, the event was held at Dundonald Links Ayrshire. Simple Energy Scotland triumphed as the construction, housing and property sector winner and will go on to compete in the Business Fours Grand Final on 24 May at St Andrews.
