High court rules red and white stripes on Kensington house can remain

The high court has ruled that property developer Zipporah Lisle-Mainwaring does not have to paint over the red and white stripes on the front of her terrace home in Kensington.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea had told Lisle-Mainwaring to repaint the front of the house white, citing section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

Mr Justice Gilbart said the paintwork was entirely lawful, and that use of section 215 of the act for issues of aesthetics rather than disrepair and dilapidation fell outside the intention and spirit of the planning code.
