East Bergholt may be on the move

Residents of the Suffolk town of East Bergholt could find themselves moving to Essex in order to protect the landscape, made famous by painter John Constable, from development.

The parish council sees a move as a way of stopping the construction of 144 homes. Its chairman, Paul Ireland, said Colchester seemed to place more value on protecting heritage assets.

The Babergh district of Suffolk has been judged to have less than five years of land supply for housing, meaning local planning regulations can be overruled.
