HEALTH AND WELLBEING: The son of former BAA Lynton property director John O’Halloran has spoken about how his father developed a “public and private personality” to conceal his depression from the outside world.
John O’Halloran committed suicide in 2015, having lived with depression for many years.
In a video recorded for the John O’Halloran Symposium, organised by RICS charity Lionheart, Rob O’Halloran said: “I think he felt that talking about his mental state, talking about depression, giving it a name, would reveal or expose him and show weakness. He felt he needed to be a rock.”
The video is part of a campaign to raise awareness of mental health issues and help end the stigma attached to mental ill health. It has been shown at events in London, Manchester and Bristol.
