Subdued housing market behind dip in earnings at Topps Tile

The subdued housing market has hit sales and profits at Topps Tiles, with the company recording a dip in pretax profit to £10.1m from £10.3m on sales of £106.6m, down from £108m.

Full-year profit is set to be at the lower end of market expectations, it said.

The bigger transactions that tend to be linked to new house purchases have been lacking, which has been the key difference, chief executive Matthew Evans said.
