UK house prices rose by 5.6% on the year in April, accelerating from an increase of 4.5% in March, figures from the Office for National Statistics and the Land Registry showed. On the month, prices rose 1.6%.
The improvement came as London registered its first acceleration in house price growth in almost a year. Prices there rose 4.7% to £482,779. In March, prices had risen 3.2%.
Scotland recorded the highest growth, at 6.8%, with prices up 4.3% in Northern Ireland and 4.2% in Wales.
