Asking prices record first June fall since 2009

Housing market activity is stalling amid concerns about Brexit and uncertainty surrounding the election result, according to figures from Rightmove.

Asking prices were down 0.4% in June in England and Wales, at £316,109. This is the first decline for a June month since 2009. On the year, prices rose 1.8%, the smallest increase since April 2013..

There is no doubt the lack of stability is a factor, Rightmove director Miles Shipside said. Buyer confidence has clearly been affected by inflation outstripping pay packets and by political events.
