Berkeley reports profit jump but warns of headwinds

Berkeley Homes reported soaring profits in the year to the end of April, but warned of a number of headwinds and a period of prolonged uncertainty as a result of the Brexit vote and changes to stamp duty.

Pretax profit was 53% higher at £812.4m, while revenue rose by 33% to £2.7bn. The company sold 3,905 homes, an increase of 3.4%, at an average selling price of £675,000, up 31%.

Forward sales at the end of the year were 16% lower, while reservations were 25% lower, although this decline has now fully reversed.
