Country property market outpaces London market

Prices of properties in the country have risen by 4% on the year, outpacing growth of 0.1% in London and 0.2% in the UK as a whole, according to research by Hamptons International for The Times.

There has also been an increase in the number of houses in the country reaching their asking price – to 17% from 10% 10 years earlier.

The country market is showing more signs of strength than the London market, Fionnuala Earley, director of residential research at Hamptons International, said, adding that a record number of country properties had sold for over the asking price.
