London mayor Sadiq Khan is among those critical of the decision by Wandsworth’s planning committee to allow the developers of Battersea power station to reduce the number of affordable homes to be built on the site.
The committee gave approval for Battersea Power Station Development Company to reduce the number of affordable homes by 250, or 40%. That means there will be 386 affordable homes built there.
Khan said the decision had let Londoners down, and called on Wandsworth to reconsider. The planning committee’s chairman, Richard Field, said the committee faced a difficult decision between accepting the reduction or rejecting the application and potentially losing all of the homes.
