Bristol to load up on Cargo

Umberslade is to enlarge Cargo, the retail hub built from shipping containers at Wapping Wharf in Bristol.

Under the plans, seven retail units will be added to Cargo 2, the second phase of the scheme, which opened in May.

A total of 46 containers comprise Cargo 2, of which 38 are occupied.

Cargo 1, which includes 18 containers, opened last year.

The first phase of the Wapping Wharf scheme is now complete, comprising 194 homes, with phase two, which will include more than 320 new homes, coming next.

When complete, Wapping Wharf will provide more than 600 new homes as well as a range of independent retailers.

Stuart Hatton, director at Umberslade, said: “We’re really excited about our plans to extend Cargo, which we expect to have more of an emphasis on independent lifestyle and fashion businesses, while adding to the eclectic food and drink offering at Wapping Wharf.

“We have had huge interest in Cargo from across the city and beyond, and this new extension would give us the opportunity to meet this demand.”
