Homeowners turn to alternative advertising methods to avoid estate agents’ fees

Homeowners looking to sell their properties but avoid estate agent fees of between 1% and 3.5% of the price are searching out alternative methods, including social media and classified ads websites.

A number of properties are listed on eBay and Gumtree, for example, while there was recently the first Facebook Live viewing of a UK property.

Alternative methods are not always risk free, however, and the vast majority of sellers – 95% – prefer to use estate agents.
