Arora, Bechtel plans for third runway at Heathrow could save £6.7bn

WEEKEND PAPERS: Surinder Arora, who founded the Arora Hotel chain, is mounting a proposal to build and operate a third runway at London’s Heathrow airport, together with US construction company Bechtel.

Arora Group owns a large chunk of land on the site proposed for the new runway. The options it and Bechtel have put forward could cut as much as £6.7bn off the cost of building the runway.

Willie Walsh, chief executive of International Airlines Group, described the proposal as a welcome alternative to the airport’s own costly scheme, and urged the government give it close consideration.
