Consumer spending fell for a third straight month in July, the longest period of declines since February 2013, data from Visa show.
Spending was down 0.8% on the year, a larger decline than June’s 0.2% fall but a slight improvement on the fall of 0.9% recorded in May.
Spending on clothing dropped 5.2%, while spending on household goods was down 4%.
