Countryside Properties to buy back some freeholds

Developer Countryside Properties has said it will buy back some of the freeholds it sold to E&J Estates, offering hope to homeowners who are subject to onerous ground rent clauses.

E&J Estates has also said it will not buy any further leasehold houses.

Countryside said its conclusion following a review of properties sold on a leasehold basis was that the vast majority carried little or no financial risk to the occupier. For the others, it recognised that the 10-year doubling of ground leases increased too quickly and it had taken action to address it.
