Bruntwood submits first plans for Circle Square development

Bruntwood has submitted plans for a conceptual retail and leisure development in Manchester as a precursor to its £750m Circle Square city centre development.

The developer said the scheme, which will be home to 12 retail and leisure units, including a nanobrewery, aims to attract a variety of “creators, makers and street food operators” in a range of pop-up and semi-permanent fixtures next to the Manchester Technology Centre.

Flexible and affordable leases will be offered to attract both new and established operators.

It is expected to launch in September, forming the first part of the 1m sq ft Circle Square development.

On completion, the project will include 1,281 new homes, 100,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, a multi-storey car park and two hotels.

Bruntwood said it expects more than 60% of the masterplan to be complete by 2020.

Toby Sproll, head of retail and leisure at Bruntwood, said: “Creating a sense of place is essential to our vision for Circle Square.

“This scheme will provide a much-needed boost to the existing retail and leisure offer on Oxford Road – not only to support the thriving 130,000-strong population of students, workers and residents on Corridor Manchester, but also to make this a destination for people to visit when out and about in the city.”
