Gross mortgage lending rose to £23bn in July, driven by first-time buyers and remortgaging activity, figures from UK Finance show.
Mortgage approvals totalled 41,587, near the six-month average. Remortgaging was slightly higher at 26,133.
First-time buyers and remortgaging activity has supported lending for some time, but the pace of growth is expected to slow slightly, UK Finance said.
