The Co-op has entered into exclusive talks to acquire Nisa, in a deal potentially worth £140m.
The move comes a couple of weeks after Sainsbury’s dropped out of the running for the wholesaler.
The price being considered by the Co-op is thought to match its previous offer, despite Nisa since losing a contract to supply the McColls convenience store chain.
