Ugly homes risk killing off goodwill in local communities

WEEKEND PAPERS: Plans for a million extra homes by the end of the decade risk killing any sense of goodwill in local communities if the buildings are inappropriate, the chairman of the environment select committee, Neil Parish, will warn this week.

Filling towns and cities with housing that people consider to be totally inappropriate for the area will kill any sense of goodwill, Parish, who is also a former council planning officer, will say.

He is calling for local residents to have input in creating design codes, so that new developments reflect their views.
