Asda cuts nearly 300 jobs

Asda has cut nearly 300 jobs at its head office in Leeds and another office in Leicester.

Some 288 staff left immediately and a further 800 had their job descriptions changed.

The move comes as a turnaround programme introduced by new chief executive Sean Clarke seems to be having an effect. The supermarket recently reported second quarter like-for-like sales rose by 1.8%, ending an 11-quarter run of declines.
