NYC RE Tech Week: Beware the rise of the technocrats

The future of tech innovation in the workplace is being derailed by the emergence of “technocrats’” as everyone and no one tries to take responsibility for rolling out digital transformation in global businesses, delegates heard at New York Real Estate Tech Week.

Glenn Hicks, east coast co-ordinator of workforce-centric software platform iOffice spoke to EG about the problems caused when collaboration is sidestepped in the quest for technological advancement: “A technocrat will set up on their high seat and say, there is one system to the rule the world and tech. There is not one system. Especially not in complex organisations. These technocrats say ‘I’ll pick the system and everyone else just have to live with it.’ That is very old-school thinking and is not the way it should be done anymore. That decreases the vision. Let’s get rid of that culture and be more collaborative.”
