The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has confirmed it is to take space on two floors of 55 Colmore Row in Birmingham.
It will take half the ground floor and the entire fifth floor at IM Properties’ recently refurbished office block.
Savills and Pinsent Masons have already prelet 57,000 sq ft at the 160,000 sq ft office, which was launched less than a year ago.
The relocation will draw to close a long-running saga in which the RICS decided not remain in Coventry owing to time constraints. It had originally planned to take a 36,000 prelet for its new UK operational headquarters at Coventry’s £1.5bn Friargate development, but this deal fell through.
In early 2017 the RICS confirmed plans to relocate from Surveyor Court in Coventry to new premises in Birmingham. It will move in early 2018, combining the Coventry and Birmingham offices.
Sean Tompkins, chief executive of RICS, said: “We have looked for a long time to move our operational headquarters from Surveyor Court and we are pleased to announce that we will be moving into central Birmingham in 2018.
“The 55 Colmore Row property not only gives us a more flexible space, it also brings us into the centre of a significant city.”
IMP’s investment director, John Hammond, said: “If you’re going to develop prime offices, you couldn’t be much better placed in terms of location than 55 Colmore Row. We always understood its potential and that’s why we invested so significantly to create the best offices in the city centre.”
Joint agents are Savills and CBRE; the retail and leisure agent is BWD Retail.
