New facade for Neville’s Manchester tower

The St Michael’s Partnership has released images of the new design for the development’s façade designed by Hodder + Partners.

While the external design of the scheme has been enhanced, the massing remains unchanged.

The scheme is led by former footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs and has backing from Singapore-based Valencia football club owner Peter Lim’s Rowsley, Chinese state-owned Beijing Construction Engineering Group, and Manchester City Council.

A new design was unveiled in August after the original version attracted local and heritage group opposition owing to its scale and effect on historic buildings in the city.

Stephen Hodder of Hodder + Partners said: “I was encouraged by the outcome of the public consultations but welcomed a pause to re-evaluate the details of the elevations. I feel the outcome is a more dynamic expression, one that not only adds vibrancy to the tower, but also presents a stronger engagement with the adjoining streets.”
