Kober reselected in Haringey

Lendlease and Haringey Council’s £2bn joint venture has been given a major boost with the resounding reselection of Claire Kober, leader of Haringey Council, as the Seven Sisters ward councillor.

It was feared a more left-wing faction of the Labour Party could oust Kober, in-turn halting the regeneration efforts of the council.

The controversial 50/50 joint venture between the council and Lend Lease plans to deliver 6,400 homes over the next 20 years.

Speaking this week at EG’s London Development Summit at the British Museum, Haringey Council director of housing and growth Dan Hawthorn said there was a fundamental objection among much of the public to councils working with the private sector to bring forward housing.

Kober was reselected by a margin of 64 votes to 19.
