Construction consultancy Arcadis has signed a partnership agreement with offsite construction specialist Caledonian.
The pair will work specifically in the residential sector to develop new modular designs and build additional capacity housing delivery.
Arcadis said it will bring residential expertise, design and construction management support, while Caledonian will focus on building its manufacturing and delivery capacity.
Arcadis has also appointed Jim Totton as its technical director for modular building design and delivery to oversee the development of the modular strategy across the UK. He joins from Aecom.
Marcus Fagent, sector managing director for public buildings, said: “In the last three years we have played a leading role in developing pre-fabrication technologies, to the extent that it is now the default technical solution for all education buildings.
“We are now seeing this success starting to be replicated in the residential sector. Jim has unparalleled technical knowledge of pre-fabrication and will work with our design and commercial teams to strengthen our ability to deliver manufactured options and results for our clients.”
