Aerospace engineering group Meggitt has agreed a deal with Manse and Opus Land to build out a £130m facility on a site near Coventry.
The land is currently owned by Rolls-Royce. Manse and Opus Land have been appointed to lead the promotion and regeneration of the surplus areas of its site.
The pair – both part owned by Palmer Capital – have been appointed to deliver more than 2m sq ft of space at Prospero, Ansty, West Midlands, in one of the largest manufacturing deals the UK has seen.
This project will bring together a number of Meggit’s existing operations and represents a significant investment in the long-term future of its UK manufacturing capability.
The facility will provide a base for up to 1,000 employees and serve as a hub for aerospace development.
The 444,000 sq ft facility will contribute to a range of operations, including braking and control systems, customer services and support and corporate shared services.
The new facility is expected to become operational by the end of 2019, following full consultation with employees and their representatives.
Rolls-Royce will not carry out any property development, but will retain a key manufacturing facility on the site, producing fan cases for its large civil aero engines.
David Mitchell and Richard Smith of Manse Opus said: “We look forward to delivering what must be one of the largest new manufacturing facilities in the UK for a number of years.
“We believe this is the first deal of many more to come from businesses that recognise the importance of this location.
“We also believe this is the largest manufacturing deal in the Midlands for many years.”
Joint letting agents appointed for the remainder of the scheme are JLL and Knight Frank.
