‘Housing’ added to Javid’s job title in cabinet reshuffle

Communities secretary Sajid Javid has retained his post in the cabinet reshuffle and added “housing” to his job title.

He is now secretary of state for housing, communities and local government. Previously he was “secretary of state for communities and local government”.

In his existing role, Javid was already responsible for housing, so it is not clear whether the title change will have any significance.

There had been speculation that prime minister Theresa May would create a new cabinet-level housing secretary job to help co-ordinate housing policy across multiple departments. However, the title change appears to have ruled out the possibility of a new post.
