Richard Upton, deputy chief executive of U+I, has put one of the three hotels he owns personally up for sale for £8.25m.
Christie & Co has been appointed to sell the 132-bed Eynsham Hall in Witney, Oxfordshire, which has planning consent to build an additional 80 bedrooms.
The 18th century hall, which underwent a 1908 rebuild designed by Sir Ernest George, has undergone a £3m refurbishment and has an art collection that includes works by Banksy and Cornelia Parker.
Upton has owned the hotel for 10 years but Eynsham Hall and its two sister hotels were not included in the sale of Upton’s then business Cathedral Group to U+I in 2014.
He said: “I am fully committed to U+I, so have no time for the hotels business, which I have taken as far as I can. The hall is restored and the business is profitable.”
A sale of his two other hotels, the 99-bed Devonport House in Greenwich, SE10, and the 11-bed The Bell in Ticehurst, Sussex is also being considered in the second quarter. They have a combined value of around £21.75m.
