Primark to expand into former BHS store at intu Merry Hill

Primark is to expand into a former BHS store at intu Merry Hill, enlarging its retail space by more than 70%, as part of the West Midlands shopping centre’s refurbishment programme.

Primark will be the latest major tenant to expand at intu Merry Hill since intu took full ownership of the centre in 2016 and subsequently announced plans to spend more than £100m refurbishing its malls and building a major leisure extension.

River Island, Topshop and Topman, and JD Sports have also doubled their footprint and Next will launch one of its biggest stores in the country at the 1.7m sq ft shopping centre this year.

Work has now begun on Primark’s new store, which will have a sales space of 60,000 sq ft.

Nick Round, regional managing director at intu, said: “An increasing number of retailers are investing in new space at intu Merry Hill, reflecting the confidence in the destination.”
