Urban & Civic and Wellcome Trust have been chosen by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council to deliver the first phase of Manydown, a new garden town to the west of Basingstoke.
The masterplan for Manydown includes 3,500 new homes as well as offices, retail and community facilities.
Work will now move forward to finalising contracts with the selected parties to join the councils in a joint-venture partnership to deliver Manydown, “embracing garden town principles”.
Nigel Hugill, chief executive of Urban & Civic, said: “Manydown will reinforce Basingstoke by building on existing strengths. Our selection against really tough competition demonstrates the increasing scalability of the master developer approach in meeting housing numbers on strategic projects across south-east England. Wellcome is a wonderful addition to our list of allies. There is much to be done but people should soon come to see the differences.”
Peter Pereira Gray, managing partner and chief executive of the investment division at Wellcome Trust, said: “It is an exciting opportunity which is consistent with our long-term investment horizon, our philosophy of partnering with best-in-class operators, and the scale of other assets in our portfolio.”
GVA advised the councils.
