First LandAid sleep out raises more than £150,000

LandAid’s first ever sleep out has raised more than £150,000.

Held last night, the event saw 187 property professionals from 63 companies including British Land, Grosvenor and SEGRO spend a night sleeping out in Old Spitalfields Market.

Money raised will go towards LandAid’s capital appeal to raise £1.5m for the rebuilding of the City YMCA London hostel in Islington, N1. The new accommodation, which will be known as LandAid House once it opens in summer 2019, will provide 146 young people with a safe, secure and affordable place to live.

The sleep out was sponsored by Hammerson and Knight Frank. Participants were joined on the evening by young people who have been helped by City YMCA London.

A prize for the most successful fundraiser was won by Ben Barbanel of OakNorth Bank, who raised £10,807. Fourteen event patrons – senior industry leaders who set themselves a higher fundraising target – included Hammerson’s Mark Bourgeois, Knight Frank’s Alistair Elliot and Grosvenor’s Craig McWilliam. Between them they raised more than £65,000.

LandAid chief executive Paul Morrish said: “A big thank you to every single person who took part last night. An incredible amount has been raised for City YMCA’s LandAid House – enough to fund six bedrooms in shared flats in the new building.”
