Salford City Council and the University of Salford have agreed on a masterplan to create a new city district on 240 acres of land between Manchester’s central business district and Salford’s MediaCityUK.
The £800m investment opportunity, which has been designed by 5plus Architects, has the potential to deliver 2,500 new homes, 1.6m sq ft of commercial space, 300,000 sq ft of new student accommodation and 1.1m sq ft of new educational space across three zones.
The masterplan also puts aside nearly 62 acres of parkland and includes nearly 2m sq ft of public realm made up of five miles of running tracks and 1.5 miles of cycleways.
In addition, the scheme includes a new school, hotel and retail and health services.
Paul Dennett, Salford City Mayor, said: “The combined assets of the city and the university around The Crescent present a huge opportunity for the continued growth of the city, linking education with enterprise and industry and arts, culture, heritage and community.”
