Bags Etc closes 58 stores as it winds up operations

Luggage and handbags retailer Bags Etc has gone into liquidation, resulting in 58 shop closures in the UK and Ireland.

According to Radius Data Exchange, the closures will total 112,000 sq ft.

Bags Etc, which also traded as Domo, has drafted in restructuring and insolvency firm CVR Global as its administrators.

The process will result in 350 job losses across the chain’s stores and warehouse operations.

The retail chain, based in Harlow, was founded in 2003.

Elias Paourou, partner at CVR Global said: “Over recent years Bags Ect suffered with a number of stores in its portfolio that were loss-making as consumers congregated to stronger, premium and central shopping centres. The retailer’s stores were in suburban shopping centres and lost significant traffic flow.

“In addition, the shift in consumer behaviour towards online platforms also provided a detrimental effect on overall sales via stores.”
