Galliard gets green light in Hackney Wick

Galliard has won planning consent from the London Legacy Development Corporation for a major mixed-use scheme in Hackney Wick, E9.

The seven-acre site, the largest under single ownership on Fish Island, will feature 475 homes spread over 39 buildings of up to eight storeys in height.

The canal-side scheme also proposes 70,000 sq ft of B1 uses, with a mixture of offices, incubator space, light industrial workshops, studios and a microbrewery, as well as 15,000 sq ft of retail, food and drink. Around 4,500 sq ft of gallery spaces is also planned.

The microbrewery would join a small cluster of nearby breweries in Hackney Wick, including Crate Brewery and Howling Hops, with developers including Berkeley and London Square also proposing them in recent years, in order to aid placemaking, increase footfall and foster a sense of community.

Galliard has recently sold out of some East London sites, selling Peruvian Wharf near Canning Town, E16, where it was planning nearly 1,000 homes, as well as Ailsa Wharf, E14, and a site in Silvertown, E16.

Ailsa Wharf had consent for 785 homes and was sold to Chinese residential developer Country Garden, the world’s largest residential developer.

The Silvertown site on North Woolwich Road was sold to a joint venture partnership between Peabody and Redrow, with consent for 295 homes.

At the same planning committee, City & Suburban Homes won planning consent for 52 homes with a site that adjoins the Galliard masterplan.
