Watchdog’s silence on PWC fines over audit of BHS is condemned

MPs have ordered the auditing watchdog to publish details of its investigation into why PWC signed off BHS as a going concern only six days before it was sold by Sir Philip Green for £1.

The work and pensions select committee, chaired by Frank Field, accused the regulator of failing to explain why it had fined the Big Four accountant a record £10m and effectively banned one of its auditors for 15 years over his work for BHS.

MPs said that they could seek to substantially increase the sanctions once they had seen full details of the investigation.
