Manchester approves glut of residential schemes

Plans for more than 2,000 homes and student flats across Manchester were approved at a planning committee meeting on Thursday.

Renaker has received planning consent on two residential towers totalling 664 homes in Manchester’s Great Jackson Street development area.

The site consists of a 51- and a 21-storey tower (pictured above) and includes more than 7,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

Renaker’s scheme falls within the Great Jackson Street regeneration framework, for which Manchester City Council put forward a revised residential-led guide by Deloitte last November. It allows for more than 6,500 apartments across 23 towers.

The planning committee also approved Prosperity Capital Partners’ 556-home Old Brewery Gardens build-to-rent scheme at the meeting.

Unite Students’ application for a 32-storey, 603 student apartment development on 1-5 New Wakefield Street was also approved, as was Glenbrook and Peel Land’s 280-flat PRS scheme on Cornbrook Road.

The Glenbrook and Peel development also includes 242 hotel beds and will comprise two buildings of 14 and 15 storeys.

Alongside the residential approvals, the Manchester planning committee approved Boultbee Brooks Real Estate’s plans to redevelop 79 Mosley Street – the last building surrounding St Peter’s Square left to develop.

Plans include 19,000 sq ft of offices and 7,900 sq of retail and leisure on the ground floor and basement.
