Just nine days after getting the green light from Lambeth Council for the redevelopment of the Oval gas works site, where 738 homes are planned, developer Berkeley has submitted plans for the adjoining Tesco site on Kennington Lane, SE11.
Three buildings ranging from four to 17 storeys will provide 571 homes, with 35% affordable.
A replacement Tesco store of 50,000 sq ft (including sales area, back of house and car parking) will be built, with residential above, as well as 28,000 sq ft of offices and 12,500 sq ft of flexible commercial floorspace.
A 15,000 sq ft temporary Tesco store will be provided while building works continue. However, in the long term, the amount of car parking for the Tesco store will reduce from 218 to 64 spaces.
Berkeley exchanged contracts on the Tesco site in August 2017.
The two sites will provide more than 1,300 new homes in total.
GRID is the architect, with Boyer the planning consultant.
