On the Beach, the holiday retailer, has taken the whole of the Aeroworks building near Manchester’s Piccadilly Station as its “digital headquarters”.
The FTSE 250 company, based in Cheadle, has taken 34,507 sq ft on a 10-year lease at the Adair Street former aircraft components factory. On the Beach will use the move to expand its digital team from 200 to 350 employees over the next three to five years.
It will move the majority of its staff to the new office but keep its contact team in the Park Square office in Cheadle.
The Aeroworks buildings is undergoing refurbishments and is part of the Portugal Street East strategic regeneration framework. It is the only building in the regeneration area that is being retained in the plans.
US developer Aecom Capital and joint venture partner Olympian Homes will deliver the first phase of the Portugal Street East development with a £150m PRS scheme, which includes 425 flats across two towers.
Simon Cooper, chief executive of On the Beach, said: “On the Beach is one of the leading technology businesses in the north and the move to Manchester’s city centre – and in close proximity to Piccadilly Station – will no doubt allow us to better leverage this position in terms of attracting and retaining the best talent in the region and beyond.
“The new space and its state-of-the-art facilities have been designed specifically for our employees and shaped by their feedback and will allow us to become more collaborative, increasing our ability to innovate. We look forward to being at the heart of the Manchester digital business hub.”
