Wilko appoints former Topshop retail director

Wilko has hired former Topshop/Topman retail director Craig McGregor in the same role.

McGregor has been working at Specsavers as retail director for the UK and Republic of Ireland for the past year. Before that, he held the retail director role at Topshop/Topman for eight years.

He has also held senior roles at Debenhams and Matalan.

At Wilko McGregor replaces Anthony Houghton, who left to join Holland & Barrett as group retail and property director in May.

Wilko said in a statement that McGregor would be “using his extensive stores experience to make certain our stores and store teams are in the best possible shape to respond to both the increasingly different needs of our customers and the changing retail environment”.

McGregor will join Wilko on 6 August, reporting to chief operating officer Sean Toal.

Toal said: “[McGregor is] an experienced and talented retail leader who shares our passion for products that simply help and we are looking forward to working with him to ensure customers have a great experience when they shop with us.”

McGregor added that he was “particularly excited to be joining at such a key moment, as the business shapes itself for the future”.
