Haringey Council has decided to drop the controversial Haringey Development Vehicle after a cabinet meeting last night (17 July).
According to a tweet sent out by the local authority, the council confirmed its cabinet “decided not to proceed” with the plans.
The vehicle, a public-private partnership with developer Lendlease, would have built up to 6,400 new homes, plus community facilities. However, it faced a backlash from residents over the proposals.
The HDV had won a high-court battle to proceed in February, after residents brought a judicial review against it.
However, council leader Claire Kober had resigned from her post in the preceding weeks, saying she would leave the decision to the next leader – casting doubt on the project’s future.
