Delancey’s Here East completes V&A deal amid hunt for new tenant

Delancey’s Here East has completed a deal that will see the Victoria & Albert museum open a new research centre in Stratford.

It is understood that Here East has agreed to lease more than 140,000 sq ft to the V&A for its new Collection and Research Centre. The lease term is 100 years.

The new centre is part of the V&A’s expanded V&A East project, which will also include a new museum at Stratford Waterfront that was announced in June by the mayor of London.

Separately, Infinity SDC, a data centre firm, will leave the Here East scheme after over six years, making 145,000 sq ft of studio space available adjacent to the new V&A centre.

The studio space will shortly be offered to let through Knight Frank and Cushman & Wakefield.

Gavin Poole, chief executive of Here East, said:  “The V&A creating a new state of the art Collection and Research Centre at Here East encapsulates the vision we’ve always had for the campus.

“By bringing together new technology, innovation, research and a world leading institution, the centre embodies the values that we hold and will bring an array of new opportunities to the community.”

Tim Reeve, deputy director and COO of the V&A added: “In June, the mayor of London outlined an ambitious vision for a cultural and education powerhouse in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and our plans as part of this fantastic collaboration are now moving forward apace.

“The V&A East project will revolutionise how our world-class collections are accessed and open up opportunities for collaboration, learning and discovery in ways we’ve never been able to before.”
