Luxury hotel owner Belmond decides to check out

The chance to own some of the world’s most luxurious hotels has come up as the company behind Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, in Oxfordshire, and the Cipriani in Venice, has been put up for sale.

Belmond, operator of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train, said it had appointed Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan to help with a “comprehensive review of strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value”.

The New York-listed company gave no indication of the price but analysts said it must be a big premium to its $1.35bn market value before the announcement. Including net debt of $615.2m, it has an enterprise value of about $2bn.
