A boat sponsored by Patron Capital has completed a record-breaking challenge, with one of its oarsmen becoming the first blind person to row across the Pacific.
Steve Sparkes, a blind former Royal Marine and Falklands War veteran, and Mick Dawson, a fellow ex-Royal Marine, completed the 2,400-mile race from Monterey, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii, in June.
The team, named Cockleshell Endeavour, overcame the effects of Hurricane Lane to finish third out of the five starting teams, and were the only duo team to complete the race.
The pair were raising money for Blind Veterans UK and the Royal Marines Charity. Patron will be hosting the Royal Marines Commando Dinner on 20 November at The Guildhall in London. For more, contact denise@patroncapital.com
Property steps up to LandAid’s challenge
Teams are readying themselves for LandAid’s Steptober challenge to help end youth homelessness.
More than 42 teams from 25 companies are now signed up for the first property industry-wide step challenge.
And after the chief executives of British Land, Hammerson Landsec and SEGRO agreed to fight it out to see who can take the most steps during October, others are ready to do the same.
A team from Abstract Securities is taking on one from Pinsent Masons, its lawyers. Chief executive Mark Glatman is taking on Robbie Meyer of M3, Manish Chande of Clearbell and Tim Webb of Greenberg Traurig.
IPSX, the new real estate exchange, and Coyote Software, the asset management platform, are also challenging each other.
Anthony Gahan, chair of IPSX, said “This is a wonderful challenge – two new challenger brands in real estate challenging each other to see who can step up the most for LandAid.”
Andy Dyer, co-founder of Coyote Software, said: “Team Coyote are going all out to make a name for themselves in this year’s competition.”
The fundraising page for IPSX is here; the page for Coyote Software is here. For more on the event click here.
