Cushman to find Kensington Roof Gardens operator

The German landlord of the former Kensington Roof Gardens venue, Sirosa, has appointed Cushman & Wakefield to find a new operator for the site.

Virgin announced in January that it was closing the 318,595 sq ft party venue at the 99 High Street Kensington building in Kensington, W8.

Thomas Rose, from property agent Cushman & Wakefield, has been instructed to look for potential successors to Sir Richard Branson’s company.

Rose said: “This is one of the most iconic rooftop venues not only in the UK, but Europe.

“The landlord is looking to lease the 15,000 sq ft two-level unit, along with 0.65 acres of garden space, to a high-quality restaurant operator or private members’ club which would celebrate the unique history and architecture of the building and gardens.

“This is the first time it has been available to lease for more than 35 years and we will be undertaking a very targeted marketing campaign to secure the right tenant for one of London’s most famous features.”

Cushman aims to come up with a shortlist of potential operators by Christmas, and name the successful bidder early next year.

Kensington Roof Gardens, which is known for its resident flamingos, is expected to reopen in late 2019 or early 2020.
